MANAGEMENT – TECHNOLOGY & PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT – NEWS AND INFORMATION
sequence which guarantees maximum
rigidity and minimum deformation of
components. The optimum realisation
of all welding-specific requirements of
reachability was also achieved. New
solutions were found for stocking into
trays and single part feeding. The con-
cepts developed for this purpose were
tested in advance for correct function-
ing using SCHERDEL prototypes. It
resulted in new process combinations,
with the advantage that complete oper-
ating steps could be dispensed with for
single piece production. A considerable
increase in efficiency was also
achieved for the remaining manual
processes.
New standards for the MAG welding
process have been reached by the inte-
grated quality assurance, which plays
an important role, particularly due to the
crash-relevant product structure. In ad-
dition to the sensor-controlled inspec-
tion of individual parts, all key welding
process parameters are monitored and
documented online. Any errors are de-
tected reliably, resulting in the automat-
ic ejection of the relevant part. The allo-
cation of every single welding seam
parameter can be traced even after
many years thanks to the code on
the finished backrest frames.
The SCHERDEL factories in Treuen
and the Slovakian town of Myjava are
involved in the entire production
process. It is worth mentioning that as
suppliers they have also profited from
the realisation of the new ʻMulti-MAGS
welding unitʼ in terms of their own quali-
ty assurance systems. Finally, the re-
quirement that it must be possible to
further process all the supplied individ-
ual parts and assemblies fully automati-
cally was a completely new level of ex-
pectation. Both the magnitude and the
challenges of this project ensured the
sustainable development of skills in the
SCHERDEL
Group

The machine, system and
tool making activities of the
SCHERDEL
Group
are described
in detail on a DVD which is now
available to order. The main film
on the DVD provides viewers
with a basic overview of the
capability of SCHERDEL in these
key areas. Detailed information is
also available via the selectable
ʻdivisional videosʼ of the individual
SCHERDEL subsidiaries which
operate in the machine, system
and tool making fields. For
instance, viewers discover which
skills and capabilities are embed-
ded in the Group for the produc-
tion of 5-axis CNC machining
centres or robot-controlled
assembly and production sys-
tems. There is further useful
information about the tool con-
struction, the production of spe-
cial machines and systems for
handling tasks or a special alu-
minium modular profile system
which, for example, is used for
the construction of door systems
and safety enclosures. The films
on the DVD are available in Ger-
man and partly in English. The
DVD can be ordered from
scherdelaktuell@scherdel.de.
