MECHANICAL ENGINEERING – TECHNOLOGY & PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT –
NEWS AND INFORMATION
COMPANY NEWS
he SCHERDEL subsidiary SMB
Spezialmaschinenbau GmbH &
Co. KG, based at the Marienberg facto-
ry of the SCHERDEL
Group
, is a spe-
cialist in the field of special machines
and systems for automation solutions.
Through the development of numerous
industrial manufacturing solutions, SMB
has been able to acquire in-depth in-
dustry experience and extensive techni-
cal know-how over the past 40 years.
In close consultation with clients, the
members of staff develop and produce
individual automation concepts which
focus, in particular, on aspects such as
cost optimisation, product quality and
rational manufacturing methods. The
company’s extensive portfolio includes
partial automation, e.g. for the removal
of components from injection moulding
machines, as well as the construction
of machines and gauges or the creation
of assembly and welding systems with
laser and robot technology. Complex
manufacturing solutions are designed
and realised in accordance with the
principles of modern automation tech-
nology.
Due to their extensive knowledge in
the field of automation, the engineers
and technicians are able to make a bal-
anced assessment of the advantages
and disadvantages of various proce-
dures. If speed and precision are re-
quired, laser welding systems, for in-
stance, ensure the defined product
quality. And semi-automatic machines
are often the better solution for sepa-
rate processes, e.g. for joining, measur-
ing, forming or labelling. Vast knowl-
edge of handling technology and test
engineering guarantees that the turn-
key systems meet assembly demands.
A proven quality management system
ensures smooth and professional im-
plementation of all project stages at
SMB. Customers profit from an interna-
tional standardised QM system to DIN
ISO 9001. Investments in the new ma-
chines and systems therefore make
complete sense in terms of future effi-
ciency and sustainability.
True to the corporate philosophy of
the SCHERDEL
Group
, environmental
protection is one of the main pillars of
the Marienberg-based manufacturer’s
strategy. Improvement concepts are a
fundamental tool for the planning and
integration of both the in-house infra-
structure and each and every customer
project. The international standard on
environmental management (ISO
14001) is used by SMB employees as a
guiding principle for continuous innova-
tion. Milestones of the ongoing develop-
ment process are realised in keeping
with the ‘Plan–Do–Check–Act’ manage-
ment method. From the customer’s
point of view this results in particularly
efficient solutions that offer long-term
environmental benefits.

T
Semi-automatic machines are often the best so-
lution for separate production processes.
This fully automatic assembly system is used to
manufacture seat components. The individual
parts are positioned correctly via feeding sys-
tems.
