Prototype Shop well-prepar
comprehensive advisory service in
relation to application technology,
technical innovations, solutions to cus-
tomer problems, short delivery times
and first-rate product quality: these are
the main topics dealt with by the staff of
the Prototype Shop in their daily activi-
ties. In the Group as a whole, apart
from the Prototype Shop locations
Marktredwitz, Leutendorf and Marien-
berg in Germany and the French
location, L'Arbresle, several small units
operating in various factories manufac-
ture products specific to their particular
factory, in some cases on series-pro-
duction installations.
The Prototype Shop at Marktredwitz is
responsible for the development and
production of stampings and shaped
components, tension springs, compres-
sion springs and shaped springs, as
well as a wide variety of assemblies
and systems. Here, they also use preci-
sion-blanking parts, parts made of non-
ferrous metal, bought-in parts (parts for
bearings, turned or milled parts and
plastic products) which are required for
assembly components. Other important
activities of the Prototype Shop are
concerned with components combining
metal and plastic, and laser-welding
technology. The research department,
as an interface between the customer
and the production unit, has a great in-
fluence on the dimensioning and design
of the components. The manufacture of
the prototypes is similar to series pro-
duction and within a very short time
they are available for the customer so
that he can test his components and
systems.
One of the ways in which SCHERDEL
meets the customer's requirement for
shorter development times is to use
Numerical Simulation, which greatly re-
duces the development cycles. In addi-
tion, series-production machines are al-
so used in the prototype manufacturing
process. This method of prototype man-
ufacture under conditions similar or
identical to series production, makes it
possible to produce components which
can undergo durability tests. Since the
prototype is very similar to the series-
product, it is possible to obtain impor-
tant information at an early stage re-
garding the technical assessment of the
end-product – something which is par-
ticularly relevant in connection with rou-
tine approval procedures.

particularly required, not only in the
Prototype Shop but in the Group
as a whole.

Sander Schoof
General Manager of SCHERDEL
Sales & Technology, USA and
SCHERDEL de Mexico
Since July last year Mr Sander
Schoof has been General Manag-
er of SCHERDEL Sales & Tech-
nolgy (SST) in Muskegon in the
United States of America. As
the successor to Mr Alexander
Kapsch he is therefore also in
charge of SCHERDEL de Mexico
(SdM) at the factory in Leon in the
State of Guanajuato. Before join-
ing SCHERDEL Mr Schoof held a
responsible post in a well-known
enterprise based in Grand Rapids
in the USA and active in the field
of stamping technology and tool
making for the electronics,
telecommunications, medical tech-
nology and automotive sectors. He
has a great deal of experience in
the field of components combining
plastic and metal. On the interna-
tional level he has considerable
experience too. During the last ten
years, in connection with his work,
he has been to France, Holland,
Morocco, Malaysia, Hong Kong,
China, Poland and the USA. He
enjoys spending his leisure time
restoring American old-timer vehi-
cles from the sixties.
