cherdel de Mexico (SdM) has
been fully geared towards growth
for quite a while now. However, since
production at the leased premises in
Leon had reached its design capacity,
the Group decided to invest in its Mexi-
can operations by constructing a com-
pletely brand new facility in Silao de la
Victoria, a city in the state of Guanajua-
to. The SCHERDEL
Group
also took
this opportunity to simultaneously ex-
pand its product range for the American
market. This means that both the key
global markets of Europe and Asia, as
well as the entire American market will
benefit from the rapid and locally based
production and delivery of valve springs
and dynamically high-loaded compres-
sion springs in the future.
Until now, the Mexican manufacturing
facility has, first and foremost, produced
tension and compression springs for
brakes and tailgates. Its clients include
well-known OEMs and tier 1 suppliers.
This will be boosted in the future by the
availability of specially dimensioned
compression springs measuring up to
1200 millimetres in length, for example
to operate tailgate opening and closing
systems. Special springs for hydraulic
accumulators will further enhance the
product range. Technical equipment at
the new facility will include, amongst
other things, new production lines for
valve springs. A new system for Delta-
MKS coating will guarantee uniform and
high-quality surfaces even for intricate
components. The state-of-the-art sys-
tem coats products according to pre-
cisely defined parameters which ensure
corrosion protection or generate de-
sired physical properties that, for in-
stance, reduce frictional resistance.
This system is most probably the first
of its kind in Mexico and will offer
SCHERDEL customers there new op-
portunities in terms of surface coating
and finishing. A feeding technique de-
veloped by SCHERDEL assures that
both large and small-run contract or-
ders for components with complex
geometries or dimensions are also
managed as cost efficiently as possible
– a competitive advantage for every
client.

Positive trend continues
Mexico has developed
significantly over the past
decade and, boosted by a
positive economic forecast,
all the indicators point to sus-
tained growth in the manufac-
turing industry. The expan-
sion of higher education and
modernisation of the coun-
try’s infrastructure have con-
tributed greatly to this trend.
Further key factors are the
free trade agreements which
Mexico has signed with over
40 countries, for instance with
Brazil or as part of NAFTA.
The automotive sector al-
ready represents roughly
three percent of the gross do-
mestic product – and looks
set to continue to rise. There
are also positive develop-
ments in both the export
and home market. The
SCHERDEL
Group’s
interna-
tional approach always fol-
lows the principle of “one
process worldwide”. This ulti-
mately means the high quality
standards of the parent plants
in Germany are also guaran-
teed in the “local” markets
abroad. Moreover, this strate-
gy allows the Group to avoid
any high import taxes im-
posed on products “Made in
Europe”.

Besides the parent plants in Germany, staff
training also took place in the Czech Republic
at SCHERDEL’s facility in Bor.
