Sufficient space to expand pro-
duction
The old SCHERDEL plant in León had
reached its maximum capacity for both
production and storage, as it provided
just 3,000 square metres of floor space
for 50 employees. The new production
facility will triple capacity when it opens
at the beginning of 2015. The decision
to further invest in the American market
was prompted by excellent develop-
ment of the business in recent years.
SCHERDEL, which previously leased
the production, storage and administra-
tion facilities at the old head office, pur-
chased an almost 30,000 square-metre
site for the new facility in Silao de la
Victoria. The premises will initially fea-
ture 9,500 square metres of administra-
tion, production and storage space.
However, due to the expansive nature
of the new location, the Group is now
capable of flexibly increasing capacity
to meet new and emerging customer
demands.
Roughly 100 new colleagues will join
the existing workforce. The training of
Mexican employees will take place pre-
dominantly at the Group’s parent plants
in Germany in order to guarantee the
high-quality standards demanded by
customers. These parent plants are the
first point of call for knowledge transfer,
since the Group’s headquarters is
home to product development and pro-
duction engineering, including the con-
struction of tools, machines and appli-
cations. Due to their rich background
knowledge of metalworking, the engi-
neers and technicians of the German
research and development department
are also able to provide their overseas
colleagues with valuable information
and experience. Conversely, the high
level of personal contact during the ma-
chine and installation training pro-
grammes helps the German colleagues
gain a deeper insight into specific mar-
ket conditions abroad. Knowledge
about extreme climate conditions or
problems in the regional infrastructure,
for instance, often leads to innovative
and out-of-the-box solutions.
The new facility in Mexico reflects the
high aspirations of the Group to estab-
lish a prominent position in the market
through innovation and technological
leadership. When seen from this per-
spective, there is no doubt in our minds
that the project for the further interna-
tionalisation of SCHERDEL will raise
the bar to a whole new level.
