of a coating installation in Marienberg
and can guarantee all clients are sup-
plied with the required goods while
these procedures are being undertak-
en. The coating process at the mod-
ernised finishing system will then be
based on electrostatic painting technol-
ogy, taking into account the environ-
mental goals of the SCHERDEL philos-
ophy. Stand-by times will be a thing of
the past thanks to the integration of a
storage conveyor.
Electrostatic painting is one of the
most eco-friendly finishes as it uses
less paint and solvents. The process
involves electrostatically charging paint
particles which are then attracted to a
conductive grounded object. These
particles actually cling and wrap them-
selves around the substrate ensuring a
very even coating also on the side and
rear surfaces. This application technol-
ogy provides a better transfer efficiency
rate and a smooth and homogenous
coat. The modernised system will also
have a positive effect on the working
conditions for staff. Electrostatic spray-
ing creates a paint mist that allows al-
most 100% transfer to the object, thus
reducing the environmental impact of
the process in a sustainable way.
The modernisation procedures can al-
so be used to enhance the existing
power and free conveyor system. By
decoupling loading, unloading and set-
up procedures, SCHERDEL will, when
using an automatic component identifi-
er, be able to increase the system’s ca-
pacity significantly. Since the Group’s
mechanical engineering division not on-
ly has the relevant skills and experi-
ence in installation engineering, but can
also exploit additional synergies – for
example in the area of control technol-
ogy – the modernisation project should
already be completed by the beginning
of the new year. This once again
shows the enormous time and cost ad-
vantages for customers that result from
the skills, competencies and knowledge
that exist within a company group.

Modernisation of the coating instal-
lation in Marienberg will help to in-
crease the plant’s capacity signifi-
cantly, while at the same time re-
ducing the amount of required
paints and solvent.
Electrostatic coating ensures a smooth and ho-
mogenous coat even for large components.
